Holiday traditions and traditions, in general, are important not only for families but also for businesses, friend groups, brands, and communities. Now while traditions are a great way to reconnect and come together, the reason I love traditions is that they are such a unique experience for each of us to partake in. From a business perspective, I always see traditions or the making of new traditions as a branding moment. Where year after year, your little family, crew, or friends get together and embrace an experience; but the fun part is it’s an experience you get to create and uphold. For instance, my dad’s family always meets on Christmas Eve for an epic Yankee swap, and Matt’s family always hosts an ugly Christmas sweater party or three; but my favorite tradition is the one that Matt, my cousins and siblings and I created back in 2012, a magical night of Black Friday shopping.

Way back in 2012, all ten of us piled up in three cars and caravanned through the night from one shopping destination to another. We would bundle up in layers and hit as many stores as possible before morning struck, and as soon as the sun rose we would pack up and head to the closest restaurant serving breakfast; specifically pancakes

It’s a tradition I look forward to year after year because first of all I’m a night owl so shopping at 1 AM is ideal and second of all, it’s JUST FUN! I’m usually able to get all of my holiday shopping done in one night while getting into the holiday spirit and guzzling down obscene amounts of hot cocoa. Now in 2015, our tradition evolved a tad bit with the opening of The Tanger Outlets at Foxwoods

Now we could not only enjoy Black Friday shopping inside, but we could also enjoy the other amenities, restaurants, and best of all, Foxwood’s Shop Dine Win promotion. In fact, did you know that you should ALWAYS be shopping with rewards in mind? Whether you’re shopping with a designated store card or credit cards with points or cash back; you should always be shopping at the locations that give the most back to their consumers! So that is why I’m heading to Foxwoods this Black Friday and participating in their Shop Dine Win promotion

If you don’t know what I’m talking about by now, with Foxwood’s SHOP, DINE, & WIN promotion, when you SHOP the Tanger Outlets at Foxwoods for every $100 you spend, you earn $10 to DINE at Guy Fieri’s Foxwoods Kitchen Bar and have the opportunity to entered to WIN your share of $10,000 in gift cards! Obviously, I’m a sucker for a good reward program, and because my brother’s favorite restaurant is Guy Fieri’s, I knock out my holiday shopping at Foxwoods and take him out for dinner.

Now this year was extra special because Foxwood’s invited me to participate in a charity shopping spree for a charity of my choice, to help launch their SHOP, DINE, & WIN promotion this year. I decided to shop for the One Warm Coat charity and guess what, WE WON! I still can’t believe it but we got to donate $5,000 to One Warm Coat to help ensure everyone in Connecticut has a coat this winter. The pictures above are for the competition and I was excited to see brand’s like Gymboree, Nike, Columbia, and Lucky Brand all participating. So if you’re headed to the outlets this season also remember to keep in mind charities and other communities looking for aid this holiday season.

Okay, and in honor of Black Friday, Matt and I filmed a little video for you all where we had to use Black Friday deals to buy each other holiday gifts. & since it’s the season of giving we are going to be giving away $100 to J.Crew!
