So much has changed since I started The Coastal Confidence way back in 2013. My blog turned into my business and with that came specific branding, strategic planning, and creative content. I only share a small bit of personal information with you all, as I’d much rather have the focus be on what New England can offer you, than what Aubrey has been up to. In fact, I actually hate talking about myself, and I like to think of The Coastal Confidence as a New England lifestyle blog instead of a personal one. Yet, I always want to make it a point and share some of my personal experiences in our letter to the editor section. By sharing some of my personal trials, errors and lessons learned I hope to connect with you all on a more personal level; and give you a chance to get to know the girl behind her love of New England.
- I actually hate writing. This is all a little ironic because so much of my job is writing copy, whether it be blog posts, newsletters or tweets; but I’m just not a fan of writing and don’t think I’ll ever be. Just like most jobs, there is always a part you don’t like and for me, getting motivated to sit down and write is one of those parts. One of my goals this year is to hire a copywriter to not only help me write more equivalently but also to have someone on hand who can help with written content creation and the formation of more long-form blog guides privy to different New England regions.
- When I started The Coastal Confidence, I was living between California and Connecticut and branded my space on the internet a blog about bi-coastal living, thus Coastal Confidence. Originally I played with Bi-Coastal Confidence but… it sounded a little too funky for my liking, so I dropped the ‘bi’ and added a ‘the’.
- I’m ironically bad at small talk, but it’s something I’m working on daily! I love and have the opportunity to meet a lot of new people by running this blog. It’s actually one of the reasons why I love my job so much, but the New Englander in me always wants to keep things sweet, to the point and efficient. I always want to be considerate of others time, so whether I’m on a conference call, coffee shop meeting or meeting a reader I often find myself skipping over small talk and just diving right into things. It’s something I’m definitely aware of and trying to make a more conscious effort and being present and not feeling rushed.
- I feel most motivated when I’m in the office, which is another reason why I consider myself a homebody. I have to travel often for work, whether it’s for an event or to capture content in another state, you’ll often find us on the road more than I’d like. Now while getting to explore New England is fun, I feel most creative when I’m behind the computer building my business. Whether it’s getting to expand our team or expanding into new platforms like YouTube; being in Connecticut and hands-on with marketing and branding is where I feel fulfilled.
- Currently, I’m the only full-time employee working on The Coastal Confidence, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have lots of help. We have over five freelancers or part-time employees working on our brand after hours. I’m so grateful to each and every one of these crew members and the support they offer. In fact, most of them are family members, friends or CT residents; which makes working with them that much sweeter.
I hope this post gave you a little more insight about who I am and what’s going on behind The Coastal Confidence front.
