Apple picking is an annual tradition for my family and I come fall, and it’s a tradition I was so grateful to get to continue this year when so much has been uncertain. For me, apple picking is a great excuse to get outside, enjoy the crisp fall air, and connect with the seasonality of nature. Not to mention getting to bake up some cozy apple dishes with the apples we picked – for apple recipe ideas check out this post here.

This year Matt and I ventured to New Hampshire last weekend to check out Mack’s Apples in Londonderry, N.H  Mack’s Apples is NH’s oldest family-run farm and specializes in pick your own apples and pumpkins, as well as local maple syrup, pies, and honey. This farm, and farm market, is devoted to bringing you a local New England experience, which means filling its shelves with local products and New Hampshire hospitality. If you haven’t planned a leaf-peeping trip yet, I’d highly recommend adding this stop to your itinerary. While Mack’s isn’t included in my orchards to visit below it was listed in part 1 of apple orchards to visit during New England fall, which you can read here.

Without further ado here are an apple orchards to visit during New England fall – part 2!

Carter Hill Apple Orchard – Concord, NH

I was first introduced to Carter Hill Orchards by Matt’s sister, Jessica when she first moved to New Hampshire. Truth be told this has to be one of my favorite apple orchards to visit, from the cider donuts to the large variety of apples – it’s a great place to go with friends or with children.

Do They Have Cider Donuts? Carter Hill Orchard is famous for its cider donuts along with their bakery that’s busy whipping up a variety of pies, sweet bread, cookies, and whoopie pies.

How many types of apples do they have? Carter Hill Orchards offers over 16 varieties of apples starting in early September and ending in October. Besides apples, they do offer blueberries and peaches.

When are the apples available to be picked? They are currently doing pick your own peach with apple picking opening in early September.

Will there be apple cider? Obviously, in fact, in 2006, Carter Hill Orchard formed New Hampshire Cider Works, an on-site cider press that works throughout the fall and winter. Nothing is quite as fresh as cider from Carter Hill Orchard’s as they use only hand-picked apples for the cider

Bishop’s Apple Orchards – Guilford, CT

My mom and I visited Bishop’s Orchard for the first time last fall and I’m already getting anxious to plan this year’s visit. From a glorious Farm Market to a large variety of apples to pick from, I highly recommend this location for anyone leaf-peeping down towards coastal Connecticut.

Do They Have Cider Donuts? Bishop’s Farm Market has an onsite bakery that whips up cider donuts all year long!

How many types of apples do they have? Bishop’s Orchard offers over 20 varieties of apples – perfect for baking, cooking, or eating!

When are the apples available to be picked? This year apples across New England seem to be running a little behind schedule. Bishop’s Orchard is currently offering, pick your own peach with apple picking opening in early September.

Will there be apple cider? Yes mama, Bishop’s Orchards has been making apple cider from their apple orchards since the late 1930. Uniquely, Bishop’s Orchards actually uses a blend of apple varieties to create a distinct cider flavor that is probably one of my favorites, come fall.

Dame Farm & Apple Orchards – Johnston, RI

Dame Farm & Orchards has been on my list to visit for some time! From sunflowers in the summer to pumpkins in the fall – this farm and orchard in Johnston Rhode Island describe quintessential New England in nutshell.

Do They Have Cider Donuts? I believe they offer apple cider donuts in bags of three!

How many types of apples do they have? Dame Farm & Orchards offers 10 varieties of apples starting in early September and ending in October. Besides apples, they do offer blueberries and peaches.

When are the apples available to be picked? Dame Farm & Orchards hasn’t announced when they’ll be opening pick your own apples yet, so make sure to check out their site for updated information in September.

Will there be apple cider? It looks like they probably do! When you go to Dame Farm & Orchard make sure to check out the farm stand which has plenty of fall items to purchase beyond food like mums, pumpkins and more!

Shelburne Orchards – Dummerston, VT

Overall I have to say Shelburne Orchards might be one of the most picture-worthy apple orchards I’ve seen in New England. From a stunning farmstand to a full-blown distillery – this apple orchard is a place both kids and adults look forward to exploring annual come fall. So without further ado:

Do They Have Cider Donuts? They have cider everything at Shelburne Orchard. Ginger cider, cider vinegar, cider donuts, and apple brandy are just a few cidery items they make and sell.

How many types of apples do they have? While they don’t specifically exactly how many varieties Shelburne Orchards has on hand they do admit to having over 6,000 trees which seems like plenty of variety if you ask me.

When are the apples available to be picked? They will be opening September 5th for regular pick your own apples but request that everyone please wear a mask, to abide by the Vermont Agency of Agriculture and Department of Health recommendations!

Will there be apple cider? Not only is there going to be apple cider, but there will be brandy too! Shelburne Orchards actually has its own distillery certainly worth checking out.

Do They Have Cider Donuts? According to their website, they do not.
