As we approach the month of September, it’s time to transition into New England’s most colorful season – autumn!

With leaves changing to a fall palette and wardrobes shifting to layering pieces, it’s the perfect time to do the same with your home decor. To get you excited for the upcoming season change, I took a trip to Christmas Tree Shops andThat! where I put together three ways to decorate your mantel for autumn!

The best part about Christmas Tree Shops andThat! is you never know what you’ll find.

Walking in I knew I wanted to showcase some indoor harvest decor with spicey scents, bold fall foliage hues and of course, pumpkins!

Christmas Tree Shops andThat! offers so many fall home decor options I could have easily created multiple mantel designs. With a whole section of pink and blush velvet pumpkins and an entire wall of harvest signage, you’ll have to head to Christmas Tree Shops andThat! and check out the aisles of choices for yourself. I captured a few of them in the images above for you all!

I narrowed my design down to three mantel looks: the first is for those who love natural-looking, earthy home decor; the second is a blend on my two favorite autumn trends – pumpkins and plaid and the final style is an ode to the season’s colorful leaves with a colonial twist.

WOODLAND CREATURE MANTEL

As soon as I walked into my local Christmas Tree Shops andThat! I stumbled upon the cutest woodland creatures. I couldn’t help but grab one of each animal – six all together! I adore the plaid scarves and vests they’re styled in. So, I decided to add orange berry bunches to complement the colors. For the centerpiece, I used a letterboard! I’ve owned the one showcased above for many years but, Christmas Tree Shops andThat! has affordable letterboard options like this one and this one.

To decorate the hearth, I couldn’t help but pick up two 10” Rosette Pumpkins. I love how feminine yet understated the pumpkins are. Finally, I nestled a pumpkin sugar candle into a pumpkin wreath because nothing makes a room quite as cozy as a mantel with candles aglow!

PUMPKINS IN PLAID MANTEL

For my second mantel, I utilized my two favorite fall elements by incorporating not only the cutest pumpkin ladies but pops of plaid! I loved that Christmas Tree Shops andThat! offers different types, sizes, and textures of pumpkins to pick from. From flannel plaid pumpkins to twine pumpkins they had a pumpkin for each and every home’s autumn aesthetic!

I completed the pumpkins in plaid look with black lanterns and pumpkin spice candles in pumpkin-shaped mercury glass jars! The pumpkin spice candles are super affordable and one of my favorite purchases out of the lot! I’m already planning a trip back to Christmas Tree Shops andThat! to stock up.

If you have a bigger mantel than ours, I’d recommend placing a scarecrow in the middle to add more height and interest to the entire design!

Towards the end of September, I’ll revisit this mantel for inspiration as our days switch from apple harvesting to my favorite fall staple – pumpkins and gourds!

COLONIAL MANTEL

As you may know by now, our home was renovated to capture the colonial feel of New England capes. Thus, toned-down earthy colors are a must!

I found these metal wired leaves hanging in the wall decor section at Christmas Tree Shops andThat! and couldn’t help but add them to my cart. I also purchased The Grainhouse™ Mango Wood Dip Board to fill with my favorite scent of the season – pumpkin spice potpourri! It’s the perfect way to add fragrance to a room without worrying about a lit candle.

I wanted to add height to the design by adding tall vases. They’re versatile and look good in almost any area of your home. Try a vase on your mantel, fireplace hearth, or atop a table as a centerpiece! To bring the mantel design full circle, I filled my vases with eucalyptus and leftover berry garland!
